“It’s constant curveballs,” Sharon said. “I love jumping between styles of music, and we throw in parodies and mash-ups and medleys, and people get a history of a cappella. But I didn’t want to do it the normal way, so the history of a cappella is done entirely through Beatles songs, starting with Gregorian chants. So ‘Yellow Submarine’ becomes a sea chantey, and ‘When I’m 64’ becomes barbershop.”

Like all of Anderson’s efforts, “Phantom Thread” is beautiful and intriguing, but it’s also a film that is not unlike central character: easy to respect and admire, and nearly impossible to fully love.
